Question:

Larry
I have a question on moving weights after the hitch has been measured, Has the 200# rule been changed? Because we have noticed several teams moving up to 500# from the back of the vehicle to the front after the hitch has been measured.

Answer:

Page 77 of the 2008 NTPA rulebook reads as follows:

I. Drawbar Measurement

1. Drawbars to be measured three to five vehicles prior to hooking. After that time, drawbar cannot be altered except for maximum 200 lb. weight moved forward or backward on competing vehicle.

2. No air pressure to be altered in tires after drawbar is measured.

3. If a competitor moves more than 200 lbs. forward from rear of competing vehicle, that vehicle’s drawbar at the discretion of the track official may be remeasured.

4. Drawbars are subject to remeasurement after the pull at the discretion of the track official.
