Mid-South Report from Murray, KY

Here are some highlights of the Super Stock classes at Murry. The weather was great and the track was just right for some exciting hooks. The Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity spent many hours getting the track into shape. Mike Happee’s test hook let everyone know what to expect after a high flying full pull. The sled was reset and Mike dropped to last. Several pullers are still ironing out bugs and getting tuned in after changes over the winter. A few pullers had to ride the brakes to stay away from the left side. Keith Haney on JR show some guts on a biting track and is able to maintain enough rpms to pull out a 3rd place finish. In the end, Mike Happee came back and pulled just short of a full pull but well ahead of 2nd place.

In the heavy class, Randy Head on "Heads Up" makes a smooth pass for a full pull. Mike Wilhite on "Blue Blazes" manages 2nd in front of the two strong smokers, "Another Nite Trouble" and "Livin’ A Dream".

Pro Stocks really showed what was under the hood this weekend but "Gotta Go Deere" showed its strength. In the pull off, "El Nino" developed problems and slowed down with some smoke and a little flame. "Young Buck" shut down before what looked like a "shut down" initiated by the safety cable, on the second pass with a good run going, it shut down again with similar symptoms. Ken Couch lays down another good run but comes up about 7 feet short to take home 2nd place.

No info available in the Super Farm class other than the finishing order.

1st Jed Pettus on Dixie Deere

2nd Greg Lamb on Black Viper

3rd Russ Freeze on Deere Traxx.

Thanks to Tim Crutcher....member of the "Heads Up" Team for the report!
